Network Configuration

Windows Firewall

By default, Memurai binds to the loopback interface only. Connecting to Memurai using a client on the same machine does not require adding an exception to Windows Firewall. If Memurai binds to a network address other than the loopback interface, an exception to Windows Firewall is required to allow the client(s) to connect to the server.

The MSI installer provides options to install Memurai as a Windows service, set the default port number and add an exception to Windows Firewall (if it's running).

If the option to install Memurai as a Windows service is not selected, the options to set the default port number and to add an exception to Windows Firewall are disabled. In this case the port number can be changed editing the Memurai configuration file or passing a port number as a command line argument.

If the Windows Firewall exception wasn't selected during installation:

  • on Windows Client SKUs, Windows Defender Firewall will show a dialog asking permission to add an exception for the Memurai application, the first time it's executed.
  • on Windows Server SKUs, a Windows Firewall exception will have to be added by the user, if needed.

Security

The Memurai Enterprise Edition offers the same security offered by Valkey 7 or Redis®️* 7.
